New York Giants lead NFC East showdown 21-7

The New York Giants are one quarter away from the playoffs, leading the Dallas Cowboys 21-7 Sunday night in their showdown for the NFC East title.

New York rallied from a late 12-point deficit to beat the Cowboys three weeks ago and winning first place in the division. Each team has 1-1 to set one of the greatest matchups in the history of 50 years of rivalry. The winner will host the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday.

Dallas awoke his first drive of the second half, an impressive 94-yard run by Tony Romo with five completions for 48 yards before hitting behind cornerback Corey Webster Laurent Robinson for a 34-yard touchdown. But Romo threw into double coverage and on the next possession Antrel Rolle picked off the pass.

D.J. Ware received a fumble three plays later, linebacker DeMarcus Ware, but Cowboys star was offside. That did not help much with the Giants and Brandon Jacobs was stopped on fourth-and-1 run.

The great defensive play helped the Cowboys, who reached New York, 19 as the period closed.

The Giants dominated the first half, taking a 21-0 lead Sunday night, as Ahmad Bradshaw scored twice.

Eli Manning connected with rising star receiver Victor Cruz for a 76-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Bradshaw scored on a 5-yard run in the second period to cap a 10-play drive aided by a 14-yard pass interference call cornerback Alan Ball.

It could have been bigger, but Lawrence Tynes missed a 40-meter right off the field goal.

Abram Elam Bradshaw eluded to in the backfield on his right and scoot into the end zone after a 10-play drive that made it 14-0. The Cowboys then moving for the first time, only to bog down when Romo, playing with a wounded hand right, had crossed the line of scrimmage to make a third down completion. Dallas had to punt and took advantage of New York.

Bradshaw’s 29-yard run sparked a 80-yard drive late in the second quarter. Bradshaw Brady eluded James over the middle for his second TD, 10 yards.

Dallas lost about a dozen tackles in the first 30 minutes and Dan Bailey missed a 52-yard field goal as the half ended.

Neither team has done a very offensive early wet but relatively mild winter night the rain stopped halfway through the first quarter, then started again in the second period, but had disappeared by the third quarter. The Giants got pressure on Romo, and he was trapped for a 12-yard loss by Jason Pierre-Paul on the second series Dallas’. That gave the second year end 16 1 / 2 sacks.

Osi Umenyiora defensive end, coming back from missing a month with a high ankle sprain, scored the second lot Giants’ next possession on Dallas. A third lot, Jacquian Williams, came in the second period, and Umenyiora got another in the third quarter.
